It is often the leftover peripheral of architecture that gives scale. Certainly a necessity in today’s city air conditioning, made famous by Victor Gruenand large indoor shopping malls, is a staple for contemporary living, but adds an entirely different character to architecture once it is plastered all over the sides. Something about different units unevenly spread over buildings makes the sleekest of structures more humble.
